I decided to run for Berkeley County Commission because Berkeley county citizens are tired of the constant tax increases, wasteful spending, failing infrastructure and lack of vision.
It is time to drain the swamp and forge a better future for Berkeley County. My job as a farrier, takes me through Berkeley County each day, and I hear the concerns of many Berkeley County residents. These are issues that our current Berkeley County Commission have grown deaf to.
We need a County Commissioner that will use critical thinking skills, common sense and act in the best interest of Berkeley County.
Tax Payer Funded Lobbyist
The Berkeley County Commissioners have contracted a lobbyist for $192,000 a year. The lobbyist is supposed to be representing Berkeley County's interests in the WV legislature, but isn't that what our Delegates and State Senators are supposed to do? I will work to remove this position.
The Berkeley County Commission holds commission meetings on Thursday mornings, a time which most people are working. I want to move the commission meetings to Thursday nights so that citizens can attend and make their voice heard.
I will fight for the removal of the Rain Tax. This is an unfair tax upon Berkeley County citizens. Large factories with a massive footprint pay exactly the same rate as a homeowner. Newly imposed impact fees for new construction should cover the costs of the water management that this tax is used for.
We keep hearing about the sales tax being raised. The County Commission wants people to vote on it instead of them, yet are sending our tax payer funded lobbyist to lobby to raise our taxes at the state capital. They fail to go on the record if they support or not support raising our sales tax.
The WV legislature has decided to take away a county's oversight of the development and running of a data center. Data centers demand a huge amount of electricity and water. How will this affect our electric bills and availability of water in Berkeley County?
Why is the park project using a Virginia contractor? The commissioners need to think outside the box and think of ways that projects could benefit our citizens. How about an arena that could attract concerts, MMA fights and minor league ice hockey, which provides great revenue and local jobs.
